Rattan is one of the most expensive interior roof claddings (after wood slats), however, one of the most beautiful. It is made of rattan cane. Rattan canes are one of the world's most valuable non-timber forest products. Despite increasing attempts in the last 30 years at commercial cultivation, almost all rattan products still come from wild-harvested plants. Rattan supplies are now rapidly threatened due to deforestation and overexploitation and that is the main reason that it is expensive. ]

Rattan is a flexible and natural material that can be weaved into many different things, including furniture. There are over 600 species of rattan in the world.
